50% Match-Funding North of Tyne is Back 🤝, £8k Proof of Concept Grant (No Match-Funding Needed) 🤑, £60k Tech for Good ✌️

There's now over 2,000 live opportunities available in our directory! And this number is growing every day!

Good evening reader,

This month, we added 352 new opportunities to the directory. This meant we surpassed the 2,000 total opportunities mark!

Now the eagle-eyed of you may notice that not all of the opportunities in the directory are confined to just the North East - some are UK-wide initiates meaning you could still stand to benefit from them - though there are others which are specific to other regions throughout the UK (with some international initiates too!).

This is because we’re gradually scaling up our efforts to aggregate opportunities from far and wide, firstly to see if we can find other opportunities which you could benefit from, and second so we can appeal to the needs of users like yourself in new locations too. Like I mentioned in the last newsletter, this is inline with our ambitions of scaling the product to help even more people to find the support and resources they need to realise their ambitions. We’ll still identify all we can in the North East for you, though now you may have even more opportunities that you have to sift through! Or you can just upgrade to one of our paid plans to have the AI filter and curate relevant opportunities for you 😏.

Now, of course, if we’re serving a broader community than just the North East, then of course it would make sense for us to rebrand to reflect this - so no definitive deadline as of yet, but you can expect to see a new name in the not so distant future. It will still be the same old service as you’ve come to expect, though under a new name that can match our own ambitions. This is just a heads up in case you see an email or a social post from something that looks same same but different 😅!

Hitting a 2,000+ milestone 🙌

Lest this say, there is still ample opportunity out there to discover, and we hope to help you find what’s relevant 🤝

We’ve listed an eclectic round up of some of the newly added ones below, with summaries for your convenience!

Have a scroll through and see what looks relevant to you and your organisation. Feel free to forward this email to a friend who you think could stand to benefit.

Feeling overwhelmed by the number of opportunities or don’t have time to read through them all?

Before we get into it

June is looking like an exciting month for events in the North East.

We’ve got UK Startup + Scaleup Week kicking it off tomorrow until the 6th, then TechNExt happening 16-20th.

UK Startup + Scaleup Week

Mon 2nd - Fri 6th June

UK Startup + Scaleup Week is taking place across Sunderland this week.

UK Startup & Scaleup Week is a 5-day, multi-venue festival in Sunderland, that will inspire & educate you on how to start, grow & fund your business.

With speakers including Sara Davies MBE, Daniel Priestley, Paul Mort, and MYSELF, it should be a great week for anyone looking to start or scale their business.

I’ll be speaking at City Hall on the Wednesday, where I’ll be providing a demo of the platform and our AI functionality.

There are tickets still available on the website, and it’s possible to even just buy day passes - so I hope to see you there!

TechNExt

Mon 16th - Fri 20th June

TechNExt takes place across the region from the 16th - 20th June.

TechNExt, the tech festival for the North East, is back for 2025. The festival spans five days in June and brings together over 3,000 attendees, with events held across the region to spotlight the best tech businesses and talent the North East has to offer. If you're wanting to attend multiple events, the quickest and best way to do so is by registering an account here.

This year, we have a mixture of showcase and community-driven events for you to enjoy. Some flagship events include; the TechNExt Main Stage which is the launch of the festival on Monday, the TechNExt Industry Dinner on Tuesday, Tech Talent Live the North East’s largest digital and tech careers fair on the Wednesday, and the Festival Party on the Thursday, spun in amongst a load of other cool fringe events.

New for 2025 are the four TechNExt hubs, made up of a series of themed events and community-driven workshops which will take place across Northumberland, Newcastle, Gateshead and Durham respectively throughout the week:

  • Sustainability Hub, Tue 17 June at Energy Central, Blyth

  • Data and AI Hub, Wed 18 June at NICD, The Catalyst, Newcastle

  • Immersive Hub, Thu 19 June at Proto, Gateshead

  • Tech Startup Hub, Fri 20 June at the Gala Theatre, Durham

I’ll be running 2 events at the Durham Gala Theatre on Friday 20th June. See you there!

I'm actually running 2 sessions in Durham on the Friday myself, and would love to see you there!

The first is with the brilliant Victoria Smith from Gig Labs, and is very apt to this newsletter and my platform, where we'll be chatting all things grant funding with our expert panel of fund providers including Innovate UK, and a number of winning grant/bid writers. I've no doubt there'll be some excellent insights to take away. You can find more and register for this session here.

The second is on the afternoon and will be the last of the week-long festival (saving the best till last obviously 😏), where my colleague Nathan Rowland and I will be exploring how AI can be utilised as critical thinking 'co-founder' at many stages of an early stage startup's life; from validating your idea, to building a prototype with little budget or technical know how. Something I have utilised a lot myself in building this startup!

This will be a warts and all session, where we'll be sharing pitfalls from our own experiences so you know what to avoid and don't make the same mistakes when trying it for yourself. You can find out more about this session and sign up here.

Now for the opportunities:

To make your life easier, below is a handy table of contents of all the opportunities listed in this month’s newsletter.
